Dr. Darren L. Cooper
Dr. Darren L. Cooper, DSW, LCSW, is a psychotherapist, veteran, author, and advocate for healing. With over two decades of experience in social work—including child protection, crisis intervention, and private practice—he brings a rare depth of compassion and clinical insight to every page.
Raised in Newark, New Jersey, and shaped by life’s hard-earned lessons, Dr. Cooper knows what it means to rise through adversity. His writing is grounded in lived experience and driven by a deep calling to uplift families—especially single mothers raising sons.
His debut book, Moms Just Don’t Understand, is part guide, part conversation, and part healing journey. It was written not from a mountaintop, but from the frontlines—where real families struggle, grow, and overcome.
Today, through Olivet Publications, Dr. Cooper speaks, writes, and mentors with one goal in mind: helping you walk your path with greater clarity, purpose, and peace.

A Personal Note from the Author
Thank you for visiting. My journey to writing Moms Just Don’t Understand began not in a classroom, but during my work as a crisis interventionist, where I listened to a desperate mother explain how she prayed for help with her son. In that moment, I realized that while a mother’s love is powerful, love alone isn’t always enough to decode the silent world of boys.
I wrote this book to be the bridge I saw missing in so many families during my 20 years as a social worker and licensed psychotherapist. It is also the guide I wish my own mother had.
If you are raising a son and feeling overwhelmed or disconnected, I want you to know: You are not alone, and it is not too late. My hope is that this book gives you not just “insights,” but a concrete roadmap to the strong, emotionally healthy relationship you and your son deserve.
Let’s start this journey of understanding together.
